Organ pipes
Volcanoes
The Haute-Loire offers a volcanic landscape with unique sites as organ pipes, volcanic rocks (with often an old fortress or chapel on it) and lava streams (like the coulee of Bourianne). Most of these sites can be visited for free.
Cascade
Cascade La Baume
Just south of Le Puy-en-Velay streams the beautiful cascade La Baume.
Strange trees
All around you you will see clumps of trees with bizarre forms, the so-called ‘pins de boulange’. These trees were cut for their wood by bakers and continued to grow in another direction.
The Mézenc and the Gerbier-de-Jonc
Le Mézenc is the highest mountain of the region and offers beautiful sceneries. Close to it, on the border with the Ardèche, you will find the Gerbier-de-Jonc, where the Loire has its source.
Beautiful landscapes
You will find these everywhere. Go for a drive (which is still good fun here as the roads are quiet) and you will see nature all around you.
